On Surfari

old van on surfari

Looks a bit like the road to Bells and what better way to spend some time than cruising to a renowned beach and hopefully some excellent surf. Travelling the country surfing, spending the night under the stars with the sound of the surf in your ears - does it get any better. A lifestyle like this doesn't have any competition and like most surfers you believe that this will last forever, for most it doesn't, no surprise in that, the only thing constant is change.
Rick Wetherstone, close friend and one of the guys, loved the Valiant S type Chyrsler and has renewed one that he still enjoys today. Rick took great pleasure out of transforming cars, I got a MGA from him. It had a Holden bonnet, twin headlights, Valiant back with tail lights wrapping around. Small, handcrafted benchseat along the back where usually there was nothing.

Looks like one of the original boards that had its home by the side of a keen, young OBSA Surfer, known as "trash, beach bums, discards" so to speak, because of their anti-social behaviour, lack of any social skills or lack to abide by the "norms & values" Young and rebellious, a volatile mix and never a dull moment, kids and alcohol, still the same ol shit -- mayhem, chaos, and blood!

The age of this shot has prevented good reproduction, it still highlights the lifestyle.
The picture appeared in the Central Coast Express Newspaper and said there are19 people and 17 boards in the truck.
The more the better when your young and eager to surf, the chance to take off up the coast with the guys, searching the coast for the best wave.
Kerry must have borrowed the van (right) from his grandfather judging by the age of it. Check ém out -- have you ever seen a happier crew!

Norma (to the left) was always there to add beauty and support while enjoying the life that she knew was best, the surf, sand, saltwater and sun - it can't be beaten. Not exactly the lifestyle one would choose if you didn't want to enjoy yourself to the max.
It was a pleasure to hear the voice of
Christine Lewis recently, it's been a long time and most of us -- long suffering friends as teens, have drifted away to different parts/friends.
